In this talk, Dr Adshead will discuss the psychological individual roots of violence and the implications for changing violent minds. She will discuss work with different kinds ofviolence perpetrator, both male and female; and in both group and individual work. She will discuss the implications for the therapist in terms of risk assessment and managing our own feelings in the work.

There will be time for questions and discussion.

Dr Gwen Adshead is Consultant Forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist. She has worked as a therapist in secure settings for over 15 years, most recently at Broadmoor Hospital. Gwen is a group therapist and trained in mindfulness based cognitive therapy. She has run therapeutic groups for men and women with severe personality disorders who have committed offences against other people. She has also worked in two trauma clinics with refugees and survivors of acts of violence.

This workshop is suitable for mental health professionals including clinical and counselling psychologists, counsellors, social workers, mental health nurses and CBT practitioners.

It will contribute 1.5 hours Continuing Professional Development.
